I congratulate you profusely for the thoroughness of presentation of a theme of topical importance and geo-strategic significance in the current issue (April-June, 2002) of Dialogue - Central Asia is of great political importance to India and the manner in which historical links have been brought out should help forge meaningful partnership in future. I wish our policy makers had the time and inclination to go through.

I was delighted to receive the latest issue of DIALOGUE, which is focussed on Central Asia. To students of contemporary International relations in India, the Central Asian connection has almost been forgotten. Even a cursory look at Indian history from ancient times to the days of British Imperial rule would reveal the various social, cultural and political dimensions of this connection.

In recent times Afghan crisis brought to the fore India’s vital interest in the countries bordering Afghanistan particularly in the north. The present issue of your journal has brought out the important links, religious, cultural, artistic and political which can only be neglected at our peril. I congratulate you for bringing together these aspects in a number of papers. I regard it as a valuable contribution to their understanding of the tangled situation in that region and the Indian interest in it.

During the last one week there has been so much hype and anxiousness shown in the media, print as well as electronic, regarding the anniversary of 9/11 and recall your editorial " The terror Strikes" in October- December 2001 issue of the DIALOGUE.

It is frank, fearless, critical of the mightiest power on earth and shows an clear picture of Indian political parties even during national stress like the Kargil battle.

I planned to write this appreciation on your brilliant editorial which presents a coherent analysis of the vast perspective of international events and different reactions to them but found no time for it then. Now in the midst of this week’s great noise about 9/11 I re read the editorial. I marvel at the vast vista and acute insights of the editorial. I am sure your journal will gain popularity very soon.

I acknowledge with thanks the receipt of your Quarterly Journal (January-March 2002) entitled "Dialogue" which focussed on Illegal Migration from Bangladesh.

When I went through the journal I could see that many authors have contributed on the above focus and they have presented it with facts and figures. It is really a good outcome. I have sent this journal to our Library for the reference by the faculty members and students of our university.
