Book-Review

“Young Temur”

Dr. Mardon D. Suleymanov

The book “Young Temur” is a feature-historical work, where the youth of the Great general and statesman, Timur is disclosed. The birth, growth and formation of a great personality are described with reliable facts as family, relatives, friends and doctors of Temur are drawn upon with unostentatious touch. In the book the chronic narration clearly stands out. The spiritual culture of Maverannahr during the first half of the XIV century also played a great role in the formation of the personality of Temur. The religious patterns, with which most of the characters are enriched, will definitely attract the attention of those who want to understand the religion of the East and peculiarities of Islam deeper. The up-bringing of young Temur in the novel is transferred through the image of his spiritual mentor, Shamsiddin Kulol. To this aim a couple of colorful episodes are featured in the book. Mildly, without importunate interaction, but with his warm heart, the sheikh takes part in the up bringing of young bekk.

Temur in his young years went through a good military school. A number of episodes are dedicated to this, such as the image of his military tutor Hakkul, the hunter Kahhar etc. Great attention in the novel is paid to the qualities of Temur, such as his courage, honesty, truthfulness, sincerity and boldness. These qualities found their reflection in the episodes covering different campaigns. In this work, during the background description of the personality of Temur, many aspects of the culture of different nations of Central Asia are disclosed. In these sections, the historical events receive artistic colour with elements of national traditions, customs and their way of life. One very interesting feature of the book is the description of the ancient types of competitions and wrestling, described by the author in the ruins of the middle-aged culture.

The holidays and celebrations held in Maverannahr are also described in depth. All in all, the book contains rich material collected by the author on the basis of his study of a large amount of bibliographical information from the history of Central Asia in the XIV century. This book deals with our traditions, customs, holidays and celebrations. The truth of our ancient culture is disclosed by the golden lines, clearly describing the character of rulers, scholars, poets, great craftsmen and spiritual leaders.

The life-style of great Armenian kings, Russian Hercules, and dukes are described with deep knowledge for the readers.

This novel could well be made into a movie, the scenery of which is being reviewed here.

Amir Temur was one of the Great generals ever. The book “Young Temur” is feature of – historical work. It’s obvious that publishers in the US, India, Europe, China, Japan, and Russia have to look through several years of work of the doctor-researcher, the author of this book. Its publication in different languages will open the culture of the East during the middle ages to readers of other countries. It needs recognition among the readers, critics, political leaders, and in the publishing world.
